I don't know anything about genetics, but a college course I took, many years ago, on interpreting political surveys showed a person's party affiliation in the U.S. significantly matched parental political leanings. Go figure.

Sorry, genetics has nothing to do with it.

There is a tendency*, though, for people to affiliate politically with those around them, especially their families.

*"tendency" - I'm sure you realize this doesn't mean everyone.
