I don't deny the preferential treatment, but it is necessary, imo. To sit on the fence and allow the rest of the Arab world to gang up on it, as they repeatedly have done in the past, will not improve matters in the middle east. Israel, for all its flaws, is a more open and free society than any Arab country.

Do you think that Israel could stand on its own two feet without the subsidy we provide?

Now you don't. Yesterday, you did:

I don't see where Israel is getting a free ride of any great distinction. Egypt follows Israel in terms of U.S. support. Does that mean Egypt is getting a free ride too?

Did you think I would forget? :-)

I agree with you personally. But looking at the world we are living, in the grand scheme of things - why not? We all sit on the fence while countless millions are being maimed and murdered in Africa, in Tibet, and other places. Wouldn't you agree that the fact that US cannot sit on the fence when Israel is concerned shows preferential treatment?

Is it the only open and free country? No. Is there no other country in the Middle East trying to be more open and more free? No. So why does it receive 1/3 of all US financial aid... to be used again in purchases of US military equipment?

Arab nations need to be a lot more introspective than they have been for a long while.

That may be so. But it is a completely different subject and has nothing to do with the issue of the preferential treatment (or "free ride" if you prefer) that Israel is getting, while ALREADY one of the richest countries per capita on this planet.

When you come to terms with the above, without going off on tangents talking about Arabs needing to think about themselves and stuff, maybe we can talk about WHY Israel is getting this preferential treatment.
