Oil and probably some military outsourcing too.

But now the USA has taken over Iraq, this reduces their role, and with the auto industry in a better position to focus on alternative energies, it's feasible 3/4 of the capital could be routed to fund alternative energy studies at universities and corporations.

Brian posted Africa gets $15B/year to fight aids (and thus terrorism) and if so, don't think they get 1/3.

>When you come to terms with the above, without going off on tangents talking about Arabs needing to think about themselves and stuff, maybe we can talk about WHY Israel is getting this preferential treatment.

Probably because of evangelical Christians... I used to think it might be because of the Jews, but then realized that even though Jews, on average are relatively wealthy, they only make up about 2% of the population and there aren't all that many in national government. They also seem to be about as evenly split as the rest of the country is on the Israel issue. There are a number of prominent Jews among the neocons (Perle, Wolfowitz, Abrams) but I'd wager that all in all, the vast majority of the neocons aren't Jewish. Heck, even Joe Lieberman, when push comes to shove, doesn't support the settlements.

However, something like half our country is evangelical, and they believe in Israel having something to do with the end-of-days scenario.

So, I think the GWB, Tom Delay, and Dennis Hastert types have a hell of a lot to do with it.
