That is why Jason Blair fiasco and Chalabi feeding Elizabeth Bumiller the false info was such gut wrenching for paper of that caliber to have failed. It is good that everyone understand that even the old, venerable NYT is mortal, written by mortals. It's God like status was overbearing and stifling, although I do realize that most media outlets still base their reporting on them. You forgot to mention Judith Miller. She was another "respected" journalist for the NYT, but just another pawn imo. There was a lot of back pedaling done as a result of her flawed reporting. She is still receiving a beating from the likes of the WSWS and Salon. I don't trust the NYT. I use identify and verify as a tool in my research. M
