Since the early part of May, the Group and the SOX have been trending upward in price, but the typical stock within the Group and SOX have been trending downward in volume. As an example, AMAT is part of the Group and the SOX, and the volume action is shown in the simple table below. The comparison periods are all of 5 day average duration so the comparison is "apples to apples".

Note that for the 1st 4 weeks, the trend was downward, but at a moderate pace. The last 3 weeks have seen a much greater percentage change. Overall, for the 7 week period, AMAT "5 day average volume" is down 45 percent today compared to the initial week.
