I'm not sure whether Edwards would turn it down or not.
It probably depends on how he assesses Kerry's odds of
winning.

If he runs with Kerry and Kerry loses, he would be the
Joe Lieberman of 2008, probably battling it out with
Hillary. Clark, Dean, Gephardt, etc. wouldn't be
contenders then. I don't know who else would emerge
in the Democratic field. Having lost on the Kerry
ticket after he barely carried his own state in the
primaries this time, and having been out of public
office for several years, I don't know what kind of
showing he'd make in '08. Hillary would still have
retained high visibility.

If he thinks Kerry will win, he'd probably accept the VP
slot because he's young enough to have a go at it in
2012, which would be his next real opportunity,
whether or not Kerry was re-elected in '08. Who knows
what the situation will be by then. The Hillary factor
will have diminished by then (due to age), which is a good thing for him.

Just my 2 centavos.
