JF, What do you want to call them?

By what they've always wanted to call themselves ... conservatives.

Why don't liberals want to call themselves liberals? Even Kerry doesn't. The new strategy among many Democrats is to portray themselves as "moderates" and their political opponents as "extremists." Hence the label "neocon," which has come to mean someone so far right of the political spectrum that he or she can't be considered a plain old conservative anymore. It fits perfectly with the "Anyone But Bush" mentality.

By the way, you can thank Reagan for shifting the political spectrum of this nation to a point mid-way between moderate and conservative. Even Clinton was more moderate than liberal, at least by political necessity.
