Michael, I just read your post. At this point, I don't know if I have all the data you are looking for, but I will review and see what I do have. I will be gone some this weekend, but I will be able, as a minimum, to respond to some of your questions.

Don

Michael, I don't have the data you were looking for I don't think, but I did some "cutting and pasting" of some data I did have stored, and let me present that in tabular form.

First let me show some earnings data going back a couple of years for the Group. Since this is the "middle of June" I gathered estimated and actual earnings data at the same point in time going back 2 years. This falls into the category of a reference table that shows, at this time of year, what were the estimates for current year earnings in 02 and 03, and then, what were the actual earnings achieved - and what was the difference between the estimates and actuals. As an example, in Jun 02, AMAT estimated earnings was 0.20 - AMAT actually achieved 0.21 at the end of their FY in Oct, 4+ months later. In June 03, AMAT's estimate was 0.13, and they achieved 0.13 by the end of Oct.

As the table shows, some companies were able to better their estimates, but for the most part, they failed "miserably". At the bottom line, for 02, the June estimate was -9.77, but they actually achieved -26.25. For 03, the difference between the estimates and actuals were down, but not as bad. The bottom line estimate was -13.92 versus the actual achieved of -18.75.

The last column shows this years estimate at the present time. Comparing these numbers to the numbers in 02 and 03 shows quite a difference. Instead of showing bottom line estimates of -9.77 and -13.92, the estimate now is a positive 14.25.
