I heard a remarkable statement from Clinton the other day, he said (I'm paraphrasing) "After the cold war, the Republicans didn't have anyone to hate, so they hated me." I think there's a lot of truth to that. The Republicans have always been the party of hate and fear as means of control. When Clinton was in power, private peaceful enterprise had it's first chance to shine again since the 20's. Of course, now they've got terrorists to generate fear in order to restart the mighty military-industrial machine.
