Thanks for the explanation. Personally, I think you're on thin ice. For instance, in the big city, I've observed that people who lock their doors are subject to fewer unwanted intrusions.
BTW, my question really was directed at the use of "compulses" -- I'm unfamiliar with this word; a neologism, no? What's wrong with the more familiar and rather direct "obsesses"?M2
