Ann, I agree with your thoughts. When I read individual's posts about how great Kerry or Bush are, and then you honestly look at their credentials as a manager, it is easy to see what we are considering. After 4 years we have seen Bush pushed around and too much spending, the departments and the bills are loaded with waste, and he has done nothing to reduce it.

Kerry has no experience in this department what so ever and would never be considered to manage a huge company, so why would people think he can manage a government so well...

The qualified people do not run, they do not need to, their egos are in tack and do not seek the public adoration. These are just common men running for office...too bad.

tonto, answer to your where are the most capable candidates query, is that very few quality individuals are masochistic. They choose not to be pilloried by the political oppostion, as has become standard practice in WashDC for recent administrations.
