I just read a Steinbeck essay regarding the 1930's -- very interesting since it was about how it was to live through it -- but one comment he made rung very true: that when I man needs help, he'll accept it (from the gov't), but when he doesn't need it, it's "back off!" (I'm paraphrasing). If the need disappears (i.e. they admit they lied and there was no threat), people may no longer accept the "medicine."

All I can say for Congress is it reminds me of the McCarthy era, a bunch of cattle running in the same direction. Perhaps the bubble economy has affected their brains, acting like a bunch of money beggars for their constituents back home (totally money-centric), but they have been shirking their Constitutional responsibility egregiously, imho. I agree with Gore that we're on the verge of a total monarchy, or dictatorship (by cabal), and it could be the point of no return has already passed. There is only one way, in my view, for the balance of power to be restored, and that is through impeachment.

Give us a break. Suddenly the liberals who have been the enemies of liberty for years are concerned about the neocon's "attack on our freedoms". People who have supported confiscation of private property (many environmental programs), limiting political free speech (limitations on campaign spending), forced us to provide information to the government(government census)(income tax), and the list goes on, suddenly upset.

Let's face it the liberals don't care about the loss of freedom. They just object to someone else taking it. They are always ready to restrict our freedoms for their version of the good, the true and the beautiful.

If you are going to object to government infringement of our liberties be honest enough to admit that both parties and practically all politicians have taken our freedom at every opportunity and understand that if you don't object to every attack on freedom, whether by the left or the right, you will lose your freedom.

Regrettably, we are way down that slippery slope.

Since you're not a "Neocon", how come you're so knowledgeable about what "Neocons" think and believe?
