Uneducated simpletons like you are the reason we have no energy policy. The US's oil and gas production is in terminal decline, we produce about 40% of the oil we use daily.

At $6 a gallon on gasoline we would still be paying the Mideast and Texas would still be with declining oil production.

Go spend some time on the DOE EIA website and learn something besides what Moore blathers.

Lizzie, I agree. We could all breath a little easier (both literally and figuratively) if we could just wean ourselves off Middle East oil and disengage from that volatile part of the world. Unlike the 1970s oil shock or early 1990s (when we dealt with the Gulf War), we now have real alternatives to the petroleum economy. It's really only a matter of will at this point. And, we're going to have to make the switch sooner or later anyway. Oil won't last forever.

BTW, I did literally pay $6.00/gallon for gasoline in England. It was kind of surreal. It cost something like $70 to fill the tank! Yikes! Usually my gas consumption doesn't figure into my budget very much, because $10 here $20 there is just pocket money. But, $70 is more like a utility bill. It makes me laugh to hear Americans complain about paying $2.00/gal for gasoline, when I payed $6.00'gal three years ago. People walk more and ride mass transit more in England.
