Well the open space wasn't the intention just the results. When purchased it was county but the local city incorporated the area and that pretty screwed the pooch.
The good side was it had two parcel numbers and one half paid it off both. In fact I just did it again with a residential property.
It's amazing to me that people seem to not read their deeds. You probably know this but many don't, one tax number doesn't necessarily mean you have one property. Under the right conditions one can get tax numbers for each parcel and then sell them off separately. At least here in Alameda county Calif. Of course there are properties that have more than one parcel where the second or even third parcel can not stand alone usually because the aggregate land cant be divided to conform to the required zoning. But it can be done.
