In the desert, people cover their bodies as much as possible to protect themselves from the harmful radiant heat of the sun which could prove fatal. That is what we call a sunstroke. When Prophet Mohammed was spreading his Islamic faith and converting people over, he wanted to make sure that his converts did not die. So he put that robe into a religious edict, for both the men and women. But those robes are flowing robes to promote air circulation not that tight fitting gear that ski folks wear. Hence the Islamic faith consists of even the men folks covering their bodies upto their wrist and their ankles. They are also required to waer turbans to cover their head. For the women folks, since they were bedouins, they ran the risk of kidnappings by the stronger men folks. So they covered their faces. I am not going to sit in judgement over their culture. Instead I am going understand and appreciate their culture and history. because remeber what your idol, GWB says: We want then to accept our democratic values to say the least. For that to happen then we should be prepared to live with and accept some of their things which they are not imposing on us like we are trying to impose our democracy onto them. This is not liberal thinking but sensible thinking, IMO. Even though Kerry's thought process is to include all, it cannot be attributed to something that he has conjured up. So cut that nonsense on liberating women folk. Let us see the US have a women VP to begin with first before you and your types go an denigrate the cultures and practices of others. The largest Muslim country in the world, Indonesia has a women at the helm. Another Muslim nation, Malaysia has a women at its helm. So there you go. So as a world citizen, may I dare to say to you, don't preach to us what you do not practice in the US yourself. Best regards and respectfully to the US womenfolks -Chinu
