Jim, Nokia is such a joke <Often called "America's Finest City", San Diego is now the world capital for CDMA research and development - thanks to Nokia's presence there. >

I wonder if it's the cold, dark nights which make Nokians insane. Pineal glands need light. Maybe in summer, they get too much light and not enough sleep.

It is no thanks to Nokia that San Diego is the CDMA capital of Earth. To give people a clue as to why San Diego is the capital of CDMA, guess which city QUALCOMM started out in.

Nokia did all they could along with the others in the GSM Hagfish Guild to slime CDMA so that it was still born. Nokia's dilemma was to stymie it, but be positioned to be the market leader in case it didn't die, and if it didn't die, to skew the game so that they could have a pre-eminent position in the success.

They came up with dopey W-CDMA [aka 3GSM], which has finally staggered into gear [once again, Irwin Jacobs was right and Nokia was wrong on when it would succeed; using the word 'succeed' in a generous way].

Hello Jim, <<Qcom>> ...

I am just ...
Message 20278361

I have not staked QCOM since looting it of USD 8/share via put/call Message 19045374 <<June 19th, 2003>> Message 19410957 <<October 17th, 2003>>

... so as to better pull Maurice's chain, yank his leash, rattle his cage, and pilfer his carrots:0)

I do not invest in many opportunities because there are many other opportunities.

Intuitively I am suspicious of long term investments if it involves money, as opposed to time.

How much should tech companies be valued at if they can never payout and always issue options and offset by buying back shares? I do not know, and prefer to devote the anaylytic time to oil/gas royalties, real estate plays, mining gambles, and such. For more speculation, I buy emerging market low and sell them hopefully higher, and for gambling, I do stuff like this Message 20274143 that leads to stuff like that Message 19845829 <<February 25th, 2004>>
