Dave, in that case, I guess you don't know about the Segway. <I learn about Triton, and another word, "segue."> segway.com

Millions of these in China would be great! At $3000 they are too expensive for now, but Beijing is flat and crowded, with lots of bike lanes, so it would be a good place to use them. USA foreign policy is mainly one of trade and trade restrictions [contrary to the hypocritical cant from the USA about free trade].

A bicycle for 300 yuan [$40 or so] is a better buy and can go faster and keeps the rider warm [due to having to pedal].

I had a test drive of a Segway at Mission Bay in Auckland and it was obviously a good thing.

A good rider wouldn't need the handlebars. Segway could have a lean left or right control for steering instead of a twist grip. Or there could be a Bluetooth connected handheld steering controller.

Selling umpty million of those would fix the USA trade imbalance with China [I have no idea why people worry about that - individual countries don't need to maintain balance; money goes round and round through many hands and many countries].

If Segways were just parked all over the city, people could just use their electronic/radio proximity key, which would identify them, and start riding somewhere. With gpsOne enabled in the Segway, the position of the Segway could be monitored and the person's account debited a cent per 100 metres, or some such price.

That would result in rapid capital payback and an economic proposition for massive adoption.

Traffic jams in Beijing are hopeless. With these things, umpty millions of people could be surging around. Rainy days wouldn't be so nice!
