Perhaps you are unaware of testimony to the effect that Zarqawi had long been essentially Al Qaeda's "ambassador" to Iraq. He is said to have fought Americans in Afghanistan after 911, where he was wounded, and then received care at a Military Hospital in Iraq. Dan B.
