nobody is subsidizing hybrid cars though. Gas guzzling SUVs are subsidized with huge tax breaks but if you want to buy a hybrid, forget it, you wait for months. I'm surprised the government doesn't impose a surcharge for fuel efficiency.

THe markets were really spooked with all the bad news last week. It will be interesting to see if we can avoid full bore stagflation. I doubt it personally.

GV, RE: "Nobody can control gasoline prices."

When prices started getting out of control a few months ago (i.e. one before the recent spike), OPEC released more supply which I believe resulted in lower prices.

RE: SUVs

The number one sellers are now the lower-gas consuming version of SUVs at either Ford or GM (forgot which).

RE: "Those subsidies apparently aren't enough"

Imagine spending $300B on alternative energy subsidies to get this country off its dependency on oil, rather than on an Iraqi war.
