GV, WS is over-reacting. On a brighter note, "By 2007, chip demand for cars is set to reach $20.91 billion."

"That number could swell if gasoline and diesel-electric hybrids catch on faster: the niche vehicles, which use electric motors and battery packs to improve fuel efficiency, use twice as many chips as a conventional combustion-engine car."
. . .
"Car executives and engineers often talk of collision-free vehicles as their ultimate goal."

GV, why do you think the Software & Services sectors have taken such a hit? I can't think of a time where there was a disconnect between Software and Hardware, so of course I'm wondering what's in store for Hardware. Of course, maybe Hardware will have bad news too. Who is to say.

Personally, am finding it hard to believe we'll have bad news with Hardware, namely because when you look at how long the recovery has been in capex, by my guestimation that's not long enough of a recovery for the completion of an upgrade cycle (and if you include growth in emerging markets, that's got to be powerful. OTOH maybe China has slowed a tad since they were over-heated.)

Recoveries generally last a few years. This one feels like it never got started. Maybe that's why I'm bullish.

Intel reports on Tuesday. Am curious about this one, because of the hit taken by Software/Services sector.

( Just noticed there was no posting on the Intc thread over the weekend. Was great weather for being outdoors. )
