Mainstream in this country, is not mainstream for the world. And the US has very poor understanding of the ME. The ME countries didn't see Saddam as a great threat:

France, Germany and Russian, who all had complex financial dealings with Iraq, didn't see Iraq as much of a threat. I don't accept mainstream American opinion as being mainstream- but then, I wouldn't accept world opinion as correct, even if it were mainstream, if it were not based on fact.

So, when the mainstream is wrong, do you accept it just because it is mainstream? Because that seems to be what you are saying. You don't feel comfortable rejecting mainstream approval because it is mainstream approval. What kind of an argument is that?
