I don't see how Allawi can be all that "independent" with the same force that "liberated" Iraq still sitting there. If Saddam could be ousted, than Allawi must realize he too can be ousted. That's not much of a stretch for the imagination- and I don't need to read the minds of the Iraqis- just reading the polls is good enough.

France is inapt. Our revolution was home grown, and home fought- the French did not come over and institute a regime change for us. The preparation for revolution took many years; there was an intellectual movement which supported it, and the citizenry was amazingly literate, and ready for the revolution. To top it all off, the leaders of our revolution were some of the most gifted politicians, and some of the most interesting historical figures, our country, and the world, has ever seen. I do not see anyone in Iraq who one could compare to Jefferson, Washington, or Adams. Chalabi the criminal certainly isn't that kind of material. I doubt Allawi is either. If you see statesman equivalent to our founding fathers on the Iraqi scene, I'd be pleased to know who you think they might be. With a poorly educated populace, and poor leadership, the results of a revolution look more like France's revolution- but even there, at least the revolution was home grown. I think when you have a foisted "revolution"- or, let's be honest, an occupation with concomitant regime change, the results are bound to be less than optimal.
