They are running out of land and water. Without water, permits can't be issued. When I left LA, aside from infill housing, new housing was being built in the desert......nearly 100 miles from LA. When I first got to CA in the late 80s, the annual production of housing in just LA county alone was 50-75K units or more. Now you're lucky if the total production for the three counties of Ventura, LA and OC combined makes it to 50K. Meanwhile, LA's contracts for Colorado River water are expiring soon and are not likely to be renewed. How can new housing permits be issued without an available water source? The same reason that NYC and Boston housing prices are sky high is what's causing LA and SFO prices to go up. Its not because of healthy growth but rather there is a relatively finite supply to meet the local demand. It isn't just interest rates, you know. Yes, I know. And as far as I can tell, CA's infrastructure is doing just fine. LOL. What's your world consist of.....OC and San Diego? Take a trip up to LA....drive around through the city out into the valley. Head down to the harbor. Then tell me how well CA's infrastructure is doing. LA county has 1/3 of the state's population. Things are somewhat better in SFO. Generally, throughout CA they have been deferring improvements to roads and bridges for years because of a lack of funds due to prop 13.I've never driven on more well-maintained roads, nor seen more beautiful malls or government buildings anywhere else in America (except for the obvious tourist attractions, of course). No wonder so many people, like us, want to move here. LOL. You are really fukked Ten. You tell yourself what you want to believe 24/7. The only roads that are in decent shape are the toll roads [in OC] and the ones built or expanded with federal funding in the last 5 years like the 5 that runs through OC. The tolls pay for the improvements the state gov't can't afford to do. Do you really think that article was made up? ted
