I think the GM is the key. I think the analysts may have expected the inventory part, but Intel is all about gross margins, and they took everybody by surprise.

Unless Intel can find some new high growth category with strong margins, I think the glory years are over. Microprocessors have had their growth run, and will be relegated to semi-commodity products (pun intended). Intel is still a good company, but you are not going to get B&H rich on the stock. (MHO)
