So do you think it was good politics for bush to position himself with a losing issue--the const amendment againat gay marriage? Perhaps it was. I recognize that the base is very important and staking out a position can be important. But this base thing can go to far if it peels off layers of potential voters. It's time for bush to assume the base and move toward the middle. Its election season now, no longer primary time.
Since bush has already made compromises with stem cell allowing existing lines, it is not so great a leap to save embryos being consigned to the garbage can for this great work. Bush should not be identified with the Flat earth folks. If the govt allows, in vitro fertilization, knowing full well more eggs will be created than needed, they should then allow the destruction of the unwanted embryos in productive fashion, especially if this is the wish of the family. Remember the egg is frozen and as good as dead--its like organ transplants when the organs are removed while the heart is still beating imho. mike
