OK, I know about sources of change in depth of field ... I was wondering what was changing in this particular case. I.e., are you actually using the same aperture? If so, have you tried aperture priority and driving the aperture down a ways? And you are using a zoom, but at what focal length in the two cases? If they are different, then presumbly the shots are being framed differently as well, yes? If you are framing tighter, you might be losing DOF, but gaining pixels in the usable part of the image.
