Who knows.....but I have no doubts that there will be some sort of attack.

This news article is subject to as much suspicion and criticism as any other news article. Just as the polling statistics you posted to me earlier are subject to criticism and suspicion. For instance.....who did the polling, when was the poll conducted and under what circumstances? Was it a polling agency with a proven track record? Was it someone from the US or Afghan government? Did they only poll men, women, people with jobs, people without jobs, the Afghan military and/or government workers or did they poll the average Afghani person walking down the street? Who did they poll? What age bracket and who did they not poll and why? Where did they conduct this poll? In cafes, the market/s, the library? I doubt they did a telephone poll. You didn't provide a link. -g-

I think most Americans are going to be absolutely dumbfounded when we are hit again, and that most of them have pushed this threat back into the recesses of their minds. They are only interested in life.....work, family, community just like Afghani, Iraqi or any other people....and that is perfectly normal.

The reasons terrorists do what they do, or how they plan to achieve their goals are a mystery to the great majority of us. Our only goal should be to try prepare as well as we possibly can by enlisting the support of all citizens and ensure cooperation among the various agencies who's job it is to protect us. By making people aware and educated about the possibilities.....we have fallen far short of that goal imo..... and hope or pray that we cover all bases.

if nuking US is what they wanted to do, why didn't they do it before 9/11 when security was less of a problem for them?

Perhaps they had no fear that the US would react in a meaningful way. After all, the Government hadn't done so for the previous 10 years when the US soil had been attacked.

It is also more than possible that A-Q had to find out exactly what the state of our defenses were....

Much to their surprise, we actually mobilized, and tried to put some defensive measures in place.

To the dismay of some Americans, it would appear.

<<< if nuking US is what they wanted to do, why didn't they do it before 9/11 when security was less of a problem for them? >>

I can think of several reasons why... from reading the web discussians of nuke designs

1. All of OBL's assets would be tied up in one piece of equipment- if he could get hold of a real nuke.

2. To operate it would require a full set of manuals and brains which are not found in sufficient quantity in the usual fellow terrorist who spends his time contemplating the joys of meeting Allah.

3. Transporting the heavy object and the operators to the US would be filled with potential for detection or interception.

Anyone traveling with it to keep it under observation would know that if caught he would be subject to tortures beyond levels what even Saddam could think of.

4. If OBL uses one he is likely to know that our response would send him straight to Allah, along with many of his fellow travelers and part of the surrounding countryside. .

It is OK with him to trigger a war, but realizes that
it would be no fun if he was not around to watch it.

The URL has to be accessed directly, so I cant show it here.
