Yes, well, NYTimes writers passed on, without challenging, an awful lot of what Chalabi was passing off, which, given the former reputation of the NYTimes, was trusted. The NYTimes reporters were trusted, and by extension, Chalabi was trusted.

Should not have been, but was.

Everybody "knew" that the NYTimes fact checked everything to a farethewell. Everybody "knew" that the NYTimes would NEVER reveal a source.

They seem to have believed their own hype.

Far worse than Jason Blair, wouldn't you say?

So of course now they're "pointing the finger."
