Kay said that some who were questioned said that stockpiles crossed the border, and that there was a convoy that was large enough about the time stipulated, but that it was impossible to get any further with checking into it. So there was evidence, just not conclusive. Besides, in the nature of the case, it is hard to believe that the CIA and other intelligence services were so misled, and natural to note that one possible explanation is the transfer. Anyway, I am not insisting upon it, or treating it as a matter of fact, I only brought it up to show that I did not hold to only one reason myself, although the humanitarian reason was very important to me.

I always thought this was the best explanation of the justification for the war. whitehouse.gov I agree with it to this day. The fact that all the intelligence agencies--including the UN's, the Israeli's, Germany's, France's, etc.--may have been wrong as respects WMD does not mean that there was a concerted policy of deceit. To allow Saddam to have the cash from food for oil and the ability to obtain WMD given his history would have been insane. Unless I hear something new and worthwhile, I hope this is my last word on the subject, which has been thrashed about to death. I'm not going to convince you and you aren't going to convince me so what's the point.
