Once the skys were cleared and AF-1 had F-16 escorts in place .. What better place for the Commander-in-Chief to be than Wash DC ?? Certainly a better choice in time of crisis than spending 10 hours shuttling between Sarasota FL to Barksdale LA to a hardened bunker at Offut AFB in Nebraska .. If you follow his movements for that day Bush wanted to return to DC immediately after leaving FL .. not 10 hours later .. cooperativeresearch.org Cheney and the Secret Service should have honored his intial request .. Seems the White House was safe enough for Cheney ..
