I've been arguing all along that most of what is criticized as liberal is predominantly what I've been calling "cosmopolitan"

That distinction might do for a number of cultural/artistic issues, but it is a total cop-out when applied to the NYT's ham-fisted political coverage. Even for the cultural issues, it does not suffice. There are a few quite urbane people who have some problems with having marriage judicially redefined to include same-sex marriage. But their opinions never appeared in the New York Times.
