Because Gore wasn't making a compelling case for himself. For what it is worth, Gore has been much more appealing the past year or so than he ever was during his campaign. He gave a great speech last night. That's true........Gore was so afraid that he would be tarred with the same brush as Clinton that he ran a little scared. Its too bad because the Dems began to believe all the negative things the GOP was saying about the Dems. At that time, I like many liberal moderates did not understand how the GOP works......that they will insinuate and repeat half truths over and over again until you begin to sound believable. By 2000, the GOP had developed a very effective method for neutralizing their opposition which made possible their huge victory in 2002. The US needs a viable third party. Or fourth or fifth. Many Americans feel disenfranchised because our two party system generally winds up with pretty similar candidates. Both parties rely on stereotypes of each other instead of dealing with the person running. So when a tragically flawed individual like Smirk actually makes it through the process, there isn't any real push to see if there is an actual individual under the gloss. To have third parties, a Constitutional Convention will have to be convened and the first thing that would have to go would be the electoral college. As things stand now, third parties can't gain any traction and that's the way the FF wanted it.In the case of Bush, there was no attempt to see him as anything other than his PR image. No one went to Texas to see the results of his tax cuts. No one checked into the (false) claims he made during the debates. He lied through his teeth about several pieces of legislation that he claimed to've help pass, when in reality he vetoed them. I'll grant you that he unified Dems and Repubs on those issues, they banded together to over-ride his vetoes. This was easy to verify, it is in the public record. And now everyone is surprised that the claims of WMD and Iraqi ties to Al-Quada may have been somewhat overstated... Yeah, you're right. I had no idea that Bush was a figment of Karl Rove's imagination. We got duped in a very bad way. ted
