I have never met Paula Jones, so cannot say whether I would have taken her case if she had come into my office out of the blue. But she had corroborating witnesses: the officer who brought her to Clinton, other officers who had performed similar favors for Clinton, witnesses who observed her demeanor after she left the hotel room, people who heard her excited utterances after she left the hotel room, and other women who had experienced similar indignities. That's a damned strong case for one isolated incident.

She was motivated to sue Clinton when he disparaged her character in public. The American Spectator ran a story - if memory serves me, it was by that nasty little weasel, David Brock - which slimed her, and she wanted vindication.

Which, by the way, she got.

Taking it in the totality of the circumstances, if she handled herself well one-on-one, with the witnesses and the potential deep pocket, yes, I'd take that case. I'd take it against anybody if I thought I could win, politics or no politics. It's business.

Some of the "get Clinton" activity was disturbing, you are right. But he is the one who signed the legislation permitting the fishing expedition about "pattern" which eventually got him in trouble, expecting it only to bite fatcat businessmen on the tuches. From that perspective, he reaped what he sowed. Hard to be sympathetic. And really, he started up with Monica about the time the depositions were being taken for the Jones case. How idiotic is that?
