Dip, you may be mistaking the FIRST Gulf War which was indeed authorized by the UN. The unanimous resolution condemning Saddam and threatening military action (prior to the invasion last year) was simply never acted upon. All of which goes to show why the US should never hand over its security interests to any other country or organization (including NATO)--MK--
