Just more populist election year demogaguery is all.

I think the fact is Americans (and the oil consuming world at large) aren't willing to make such sacrifices right now. It would be a good thing if we could summon the will, because things will get much worse as the low cost oil starts drying up, but this is just how things are, and people won't get motivated in general till it gets painful enough, it's human nature. Just as it's been human nature to find solutions eventually as has been the case in many times throughout history.
