There are many skilled orators or celebrities in history who were morally bankrupt, incompetant or evil.

Martha Stewart is well liked by her constituents, but she's a felon.

The father (Bush Sr.) has better credentials than the son. People said that in spite of those credentials, he did not deserve a second term. You think that they would vote junior with worse off credentials?

If I remember correctly, Bush Sr. blamed Alan Greenspan for raising interest rates during the election year.

The interest rates increase adversely affected the economy and the market went downhill. And so disenchanted folks turfed Bush Sr. out and voted Clinton in.

What I find quite amazing is that there nary was any outrage at Clinton's indiscretions and peccadilloes with young women,

and again there is little or no outrage at Bush Jr.s' incompetency (except on the J. Kerry threads on SI).

Apparently, lots of Americans were charmed and wowed by Clinton, and now lots of "sheep" and "lambs" believe they we all must vote for Bush because they believe, like Robertson and his ilk do, that Bush is a man of God with destiny in his hands.

By the way, the upswing in the economy during Clinton's watch was all smoke-and-mirrors. It was "achieved" by jacking up the greenback by a prolonged artificial depression of the price of gold. To me, it is quite laughable that Clinton should now be bragging about the good times during his watch.
