Larry,

It will all hinge on voter turnout. More specifically on if the Bush campaign can deter, disgust, and disinterest away the majority of potential voters whose main concern is how to pay the next bills in the mailbox. Turn them off to the whole process and a win is assured.

Kerry will win by energizing these same potential voters to actually take time to vote.

I also heard Kerry's speech. I don't vote party lines... never have and wanted so see what he had to say. Yes it was good speech yet any politician can promise to do better. I take what any one running for office with skepticism. I look at the record as a point of what the person is likely to do. Mr. Kerry has a voting record very much different from what his speech said.

One think you can say about GW: you know where he stands. Mr. Kerry's record has vacillated depending on the times.

Here are two quotes from Sen. Kerry, which now he seems to have claimed he never said:

Senator John Kerry(2002) "I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force - if necessary - to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."

In January 2003, Kerry added, "Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime. . . . He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. . . . And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction. So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real."

So to say as Kerry did, GW lied about WMD is to claim he(Kerry) never believed or say it either. I know in a political race you have to make differences between the two candidates, but be honest in what you said vs denying it was ever said. I hope his record along with the past 4 years of GW is displayed for the public. It will come down to trust and in that regard Sen. Kerry has a long way yet to go. Kerry is no JFK.
