When I looked into it, I found the following:

1) Most of the crew members he served with regarded him highly, except one who thought he was a coward and a fraud. However, there was apparently an incident with that crewmember where he allegedly opened fire on an unarmed boat (ala Apocalypse Now) whereas Kerry threatened him with court martial. Bad blood between the two ever since, as you can imagine.

2) The Swift Boaters against Kerry seem to mostly be beefing about his post-Vietnam protesting, seeing it as hurting the war and the fighters. Very few have comments on his in country behavior, other than the questioning of the severity of his wounds and his short tour.

3) The crux of their complaints seem to be about his charges of war crimes. Kerry claims that he did not see any war crimes, but was reiterating stories that he heard from fellow vets at a closed meeting sometime shortly after he got back.

I've lost the details of the above, but can try to find them if you'd like to see it firsthand (I may not be remembering the details correctly, although I think this is the gist of it.
