kerry has nothing to run on except 4 months in vietnam which he brought back proof of his leadership and action on a camera.

he cannot defend what he has done since then and i believe most of military do not believe what he did during those 4 months was all it is made up to be.

Bush needs an overwhelming military vote, but expect Kerry to pick off quite a few of them between now and November. Maybe as much as half. Also remember, half the military now is minorities and women, plus the white southern males in the military are going to be Bushies anyway.

It really makes no sense to support Bush over Kerry if you're a vet. Kerry is a war hero and life-long champion of vets rights, Bush is the AWOL rich kid guy who's cut their benefits and treated them like dirt. Also, the Iraq War has got to be less and less popular with the military community. It's totally over-stretched and exhausted them and Bush's WMD's claims anmd his whole excuse for invading turn out to be a buncha BS.

36% of African-American voters have a family member in the military, much higher than any other ethnic group. Sometimes Bushies forget that. And about 90% of blacks will be voting for Kerry plus about 70% of Hispanics.

If you go to any military base these days you'll be amazed at hoiw relatively few white people there are anymore. You will often find entire platoons of men and women of color.

Also military families are low income and would do better under Kerry than Bush vis a vis health care and education. Vietnam Vets have got to be wowed by Kerry unless they are of the rightwing persuasion, but most vets I know have very mixed feelings about whether or not that war was justified.

Kerry's Band Of Brothers and twelve top Generals will be out campaigning for him. They make an impact. Max Cleland and Wes Clark are very popular with military voters. They know who's really on their side.

Mark, you may be right about most of the military voting for Bush. The fact is, most Americans don't even know anyone in the military, and the military vote is a non-factor. The reason Kerry is stressing his military expereince is because we're at war, he's a bonafide hero and Bush is a rich boy whose daddy got him into the guard so he could avoid Vietnam, then fixed it when he skipped out. He's not courting the military vote, he's courting the Commander in Chief vote. After Bush's seven minutes of fear on 9/11, he's looking better all the time!
