Bugmenot - some posts on the FOOL.
Note: I have not tried it
=====================================================
You can get the BugMeNot browser plugin which automatically gives you a login and password for a site that bugs you with having to register a free subscription.

bugmenot.com
============================================================
And how do we know BugMeNot isn't spyware?
What is BugMeNot getting in this bargain?

KB
===========================================================
Before I downloaded it, I did a web search on bugmenot and spyware in various expressions and found nothing despite the fact that this is apparently a very widely known app.
My spyware detector also shows me nothing.
Also, there is nothing in their terms of use.

There is a fair amount of free plugins for browsers available, without spyware. Some people are just nice, apparently, hard as that is to believe.

Splotto comments on Japan....
JAPAN: 58th Straight CPI Decline
And to think, they are complaining about prices falling. This is the bizzarro world that central bankers lead us to.

japantimes.co.jp

The key gauge of consumer prices in Tokyo fell 0.1 percent in July on a year-on-year basis, marking a record 58th straight month of decline, the government said Friday.

The reading indicates that deflation still persists in Japan.

The consumer price index for Tokyo's 23 wards, excluding volatile perishable food prices, stood at 97.3 against the 2000 base of 100, the Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications Ministry said in a preliminary report.

The key CPI, regarded as a leading indicator of prices nationwide, dropped by 0.1 percent for the five months through July.

Consumer spending last year overtook advertising as the primary source of revenue for the US media industry

news.ft.com

Consumer spending last year overtook advertising as the primary source of revenue for the US media industry, reflecting the growing popularity of pay-television, DVDs and the internet in an era characterised by ever-expanding choice for media users.

According to a study published on Monday, consumer spending on media last year rose 6.5 per cent to $178.4bn, surpassing advertising, which grew by 3.2 per cent to $175.8bn.

The report published by Veronis Suhler Stevenson, the media merchant bank signals a willingness by US consumers to pay for information and entertainment that matches their interests rather than relying on advertising-supported media designed to appeal to a broader audience.

this is an interesting article that talks about a guy named Thomas Gold, who thought (he's dead) that the world's supply of oil is inexhaustible
