The Kerry campaign is planning to vigorously counter the charges and will accuse the veteran's groups of being well-financed by a top Bush donor from Texas,

The interesting part to me will be how the media frames it. I think it will be as a "vast right wing conspiracy" paid for by oil-rich Texans.

The problem is this is all hearsay 35 years later, while the record states the opposite. Hard to get traction. It may energize the base, but that's about it.

"They hired a goddamn private investigator to dig up trash!" charged a top Kerry adviser traveling with the senator late Tuesday. "This is pay for play, and the dirtiest of all dirty tricks ever played on a candidate for the presidency. How low can they go?"

How low can they go is a very good question that I cannot answer...except to say I hope those investigating Kerry went as low as Kerry did.

Karen,
All of it i am sure unprovable like the charges against bush about being awol and the vince foster stuff et al with clinton. You cant prove it so why go there? To show they are smaller than the folks they aim to take out. All of this crap against bush, kerry and clinton is irrlevent. Drudge stuff is like debka--its wrong most of the time i am afraid and its disgraceful to concentrate on it as if we have found a magic elixir to defeat kerry. Defeat of Kerry hinges on proving he was a horrible do-nothing senator and leading flip flopper over the last 20 years, not disparaging his war record by vets embittered by his anti-war activities post his service and obscessed with payback. Play it that way and kerry will win imo. Mike
