America has less then 3% of the world's oil reserves, and we import over 50% of our daily needs.

i believe you are mistaken on two accounts here, having nothing to do with politics.

1. It is not just having oil that makes it cheap. Oil that comes from the ME and SA in particular is extremely easy to extract and process, making it far cheaper than American oil.

2. The current price oil is not due to supply and demand issues, but rather to (potentially) exaggerated fears over terrorism pushing up commodities futures prices.
