No, not nuts, Michael. You are just suffering from the predictable psychological trauma of having watched the attempted Democratic Party makeover--from the party of McGovern, Mondale, Humphrey, Carter and Clinton to the war party of Roosevelt, Truman, LBJ (forget him!) and do you think we can lay claim to Teddy Roosevelt just this once.

The Bush Haters first embraced the tree hugging environmentalists who loved Howard Dean and pumped 50 million dollars into his coffers, only to watch all go down the drain. Then they turned to the reforming liberals led by mighty Ted Kennedy of Chappaquiddick fame who is determined to reincarnate the social order as enunciated by his brother, JFK I. Next came an array of anti-capitalists followed by their intellectually deficient Hollywoood minions who fail to understand that their filthy lucre comes from the creators of capital. And finally the rabid anyone but Bush whirling dervishes led by the likes of George Soros and Michael Moore.

Then, there in Boston, the Wizards of Oz viewed the political terrain and came to a rapid decision. Before the cameras started rolling up and down the aisle at Convention Center, an enforced change of course was dictated if Electoral College disaster was to be avoided.

How to get beyond that crowd of unknowing nuts described above to insure victory in November?

Muzzle them in Boston and then wrap your candidate in what is now apparent to everyone, even the Democrats.

"It's the War, stupid!" So wrap your party in the flag, wrap your leader in his military uniform (you know, the one with all the medals and ribbons), march him out on stage, teach him how to salute crisply, and put the proper words in his mouth (Reporting for duty, Sir), and then let General Kerry outmarch and out salute George W.Bush and his regiments and armaments all the way to the White House.

Anyone scripting such a scenario as that described above back during the primaries would have been hooted off stage.
But, man, the times they are a' changing. The writing is on the wall. We must out-Bush Bush if we are going to win.

It's no wonder that the negative bounce occurred. The Democrats are confused. They don't know what kind of Democratic Party they have. They don't understand their leader, especially with the abrupt change of course.

And the Republicans? Well, they are confused too. Who and where is the enemy? And what kind of grenades will it seek to lob in order to maintain the confusion.

So, Michael: "Here comes the vegans for Nader and the pyromaniacs for Kerry." You can just feel it.

Are you nuts? Only if you continue to think that Kerry has a chance in hell.

As his wife Teresa said: Four more years of Bush is four more years of hell. That's the only hell that Kerry is likely to face as he weighs his chances.
