NHP, wouldn't it be great if they just scrapped the whole idea of the passport...

...and issued an ID card with an embedded microchip?

Essentially like a generic credit card with embedded biometrics.

I found this while checking the internet for a hardware problem I am having.

"Is there any way to repair an optorite ddo203 that is no longer recognised by the pc's bios due to a bad flash.
I upgraded using the flash utility and firmware on the optorite site.Upon reboot as requested by the program the drive is no longer seen by the bios or pc.
Emails and calls to accupc and to optorite have been ignored,The drive is only 2 months old and they won't exchange it for a new one."

There are ways whereby the above problem could be remedied with the appropriate software. But, how much easier it would be for the novice, if he could just have the manufacturer send him the upgrade on a memory card containing the firmware.

I think it is just a matter of time when ALL firmware will be stored on easily removable memory cards.

FWIW I think that a segment of World News tonight on ABC at 6:30 EDT will be about the digital camera revolution at the Olympic Games. Not sure, but it might be worth tuning in.
