Mike,
Have heard this stagflation talk all day today. I am not as negative as you on the corporate side and although the consumer often takes a breather after overspending and borrowing, he usually comes back. So hopefully we wont be that out of sync. If you and i are more right than wrong then most of this softness should be already factored in.
I dont see the job weakness by the way. The 5.5 unemp rate is historically very good. Bears will say its because folks go off the rolls. I think productivity may have slowed growth of recorded jobs but i also think many folks off the rolls are in fact working--driving the trucks that do repairs, build basements, do landscaping etc. etc. Govt types dont pick these kind of jobs up fast enough. Household survey does( a better job (i think) and is doing better. mike
