They have no full-on sea view, but do have an enormous garden that is a rarity in HK, full of plants (papaya, lemon, herbs, banana plants). A 250 square feet greenhouse has been put in place where the patio used to be, complete with aircon and remote controlled retractable ceiling screen. The princess will presumably hold court at her grandparents' during the day time, guarded by the dog, amused by grandma's piano teaching of various kids, cuddled by her violin-teaching aunt, and regularly wheeled by nanny to the Stanley beach in her mountain pram (w/ fat sand-traversing-capable tires). The in-laws next door neighbor just got a son, born last month, and so contacts are made for the play group schema. We have also noticed that there is a group of moms with little kids at the neighborhood beach everyday at around 3:00pm, and so ... We are planning to send the baby to relatives all around the world for summer seasons starting at age 7, and her education promises to be rigorous, complete with personal combat skills. The former is my choice, and the latter is the wife's preference. I was born in China when times were tough, and I slept in a converted steamer trunk ;0) My toys were only one infinitely amusing erector sets sent by my Russian brother, an early transistor radio from Japan, and some empty match boxes (real match boxes, not the little metal cars); I used chess pieces as soldiers and match boxes as tanks. I did get to travel quite a bit in then communist China and capitalist HK. My uncle had a big power yacht in HK, and the teachers in Beijing asked my parents to get me not talking about it. Needless to say, I failed Maxist theory course. I in fact goofed off most of my academic years in China and overseas, and loved it, though it was touch and go and dicey at times. So, the battle lines are now formed, daddy will be max fun, with Lego sets to play with and Unreal Tournament Death Match to exercise survival skills, whereas mommy will be max pain, calling in tutors and nagging about exams. On one aspect my wife and I agree with each other, that is to make good use of the Clay Piggy Bank given to us by the insurance agent, complete with ledger book, and small pencil fitting the baby's hand :0) On another aspect, Erita will learn swimming at 18 months. Floatation wetsuit is ready in her closet. Oh, yes, I am already dreaming about ... "Erita ... this is a Canadian energy royalty ... it pays a distribution every month ... that is a share of QCOM, it pays next to nothing ... this is a chunk of gold ... that is a sheet of paper ..." :0) Chugs, Jay
