The volatility indices have always shown extremely high readings at long term market bottoms. It is my expectation that it will be the same old story at the next market bottom. The number of participants in the market will not make any difference in my humble opinion.

No one can say for sure if any absolute level of volatility will or will not be reached. No one can say for certain what effect the number of market participants will make on option premiums. It's all supply and demand. But there will be too many bearish bets made at the bottom. There always are.

What I can say for certain is that when an extreme level of panic is reached then fades and then is tested again we will probably see another long term bottom put in place.
