By that time, they were securing areas with small patrols, mostly, and could take off the anti- chem suits. But the point is not so much that we couldn't wait, as that we were committed to regime change, and the inspections could never effectively prove that Saddam was not a threat, it is too easy to hide things. Thus, there was little point in waiting. You say the diplomatic point was suficient? I say that, as always, we were going to do the heavy lifting, whatever the coalition, and that it is about time to recognize that we do not work for them, and that putting up the most money, most troops, and most materiel has its privileges. I think that was a point worth making.
