The anti-Bush crowd would just brazen it out They are "yellow dog democrats." ABBB. But it will move the middle, and a lot of vets. If one or two of the Swift Vets recant, it won't hurt that much. But if any of the "Kerry 8" recant or become discredited, it is a killer for Kerry. He has really featured them. There is a lot of fear and loathing going in right now in the Kerry Kamp.

Honestly, the sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach says that even if Kerry was caught nailing kittens to trees in the dead of night wearing leotards and a tutu, with his face painted blue, it would not kill his campaign Actually, the American political system doesn't have any mechanism to handle a candidate imploding at this stage, and couldn't deal with it, I think. If the candidate is hit with something embarrassing, the campaign has no choice but to soldier on. If the candidate were hit with something disqualifying, either political or a health issue like a heart attack, I really don't know what they would do. Thinking about it, I don't think we've ever had the case where a candidate for President has died or become disabled during the later stages of the campaign. (Robert Kennedy was shot during the primaries).
