Well, I am cut from weaker cloth than the rest of the posters, but if I had 3 Purple Hearts, I would have gone home, too.

My kids are reading Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, I got an earfull on the trip to and from Florida, which sort of brought back recollections of the book, and I have the distinct impression that the guys Heller wrote about would have been thrilled to go home with three Purple Hearts (from WWII, not Vietnam, a much easier war to defend these days.)

Still and all, I would not have gone on and on about what a hero I was thirty something years later after I bugged out early. Just asking for trouble.

Kerry hung out with draft resisters, he doesn't know what's acceptable among the type of guy who did not think he had the right to resist. Very interesting sociological phenomenon. I post openly about being against the war at the time, and nobody gives me grief except Kerry supporters. Odd, that.

Tax deduction for medical purposes isn't a loophole, it's a deduction.

Loopholes that come to mind - who gets the dependent child deduction, the parent who has physical custody, or the parent who pays many thousands in child support?

Can you take the capital gains deduction when you sell the marital residence when you are not actually living there because a judge ordered you out, so you're living in an apartment?

Stuff like that. I have opinions which seem to run counter to what most tax advisors would tell you. I think the custodial parent gets the dependent child deduction, and I think the spouse living in the apartment does not get the capital gains deduction. But that's just me.

>>> guess you would have to ask all the people who got 3 or more purple hearts and did not go home<<<

Are you suggesting that, if no one else chooses to take a tax deduction for medical expenses, then it would be wrong for you to take one? Is that the principle you're stomach is reacting to?

k,
You flunk the test you said I passed.
Are you being paid to post here?

I don't have three. Though by Kerry's standard for Purple Hearts I should have at least 40.

If you want an officer's with three PHs viewpoint, I can connect you with an officer who served with me who was wounded and medevaced 3 times in 10 days or less and returned to his command each time.

I was with him within a few yards each time he was hit. But I was not on his boat...Come to think of it...he didn't have a boat.
